International Compost Awareness Week
International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry. It is celebrated during the first full week of May throughout the U.S. and internationally. The goal of ICAW is to work together to raise public awareness on why we all should be composting our organics and using compost to create healthier soil. The program includes a poster contest held in the fall and thousands of activities and events held during the week in May. Throughout the week of ICAW, events are held all over the country and the world with communities, schools, governments and businesses planning different activities to encourage and celebrate composting – all types of composting – from backyard to large–scale

19th Annual Vermont Organics Recycling Summit
The Composting Association of Vermont is convening the 2025 Vermont Organics Recycling Summit as part of International Compost Awareness Week, sharing the theme Sustainable Communities Begin with Compost! Join us to explore how compost can drive a sustainable future for communities everywhere! VORS 2025 will spotlight composting as a powerful tool for sustainable communities, adaptable to all scales—from backyard composters and community initiatives to large-scale facilities.
The 2025 Summit will be held on Wednesday, April 30th, at the Randolph campus of Vermont State University (formerly VTC). The day will include a hybrid plenary in the morning followed by lunch and in-person-only sessions; the day will conclude with a social networking event nearby. On Thursday, May 1st, we plan to offer a variety of tours, field trips and in-person workshops concurrently across Vermont.

Creating Private & Public Partnerships to Address Organic Waste
Want to learn how to forge private and public partnerships to achieve success? LIOI’s Marjorie Spitz, ReWild LI’s Gloria Frazee and WMRI’s Michael White will lead an insightful discussion on how to forge impactful public-private partnerships, overcome common barriers, and implement actionable strategies to drive real change in organics management. Together, they are part of a Long Island Organics Initiative Group working to address the complex challenge of organics on Long Island.
NYS Organics Summit
The 11th annual NYS Organics Summit will be held April 8-10, 2025 at the Hilton Garden Inn Troy, in Troy, NY. The 2025 summit will include two full days of programming (April 8-9) and a half-day of local facility tours (April 10). The annual summit is an opportunity to connect with more than 200 professionals and local leaders to share success stories, learn about emerging issues, develop networks and partnerships, and discuss creative solutions to help advance sustainable organics management across NYS.

Zero Waste Forum
Join Race to Zero Waste (R20W) and partners for the Zero Waste Forum. The event is an opportunity to collaborate and network with local, national, and global zero waste practitioners. The event program builds on conversations around the International Day of Zero Waste, which has been declared by the United Nations Environment Department as March 30th. Zero Waste Week will feature engaging workshops, networking, a beach cleanup, an award ceremony, sustainability tours, and expert speakers.
